Word of the Year 2019
I’ve never done a word of the year, but for the first time in a long time I feel like I know my path. I know what I want to do with this platform & this year I intend to drive home my mission! I truly want to inspire the people out there to be the best version of themselves every single day. Now in order to do all of those things, it requires one thing: consistency. Is it really that simple? Yes, yes it is.
Consistency: con·sis·ten·cy | \kən-ˈsi-stən(t)-sē \
a: archaic : condition of adhering together : firmness of material substance
b: firmness of constitution or character : persistency
If you’re anything like me, you want to truly utilize your energy to continually create that excitement, passion, and the skills necessary to take yourself where you want to go. Honestly, every single day we can get off track - we can get discouraged and find ourselves so far from where we want to be mentally, physically, and emotionally. It only takes a bad day to derail your own progress if you let it snowball. That’s part of the reason I wanted to do this in the first place, so I can summarize my intentions (separate blog post to come on these) in one word! I want to be able to be able to tell people a year from now I set out these 2019 intentions and delivered on them for myself and myself only.
How am I going to use this word throughout the year? As a reminder. Every single day I want to wake up with the mindset that I need to remain consistent in certain aspects of my life to be successful and create balance. I want to be consistent in the following this year: my blog content, youtube video content, my workout routine, healthy eating habits, financial control, and so many other things. I need to wake up and CHOOSE to eat healthy, SEEK OUT inspiration, REFUSE to buy things I don’t need, SAVE my money, etcetera. To me, this is the year to GET THINGS DONE and get results! And I can do that, as long as I remain consistent.
Now what this word ISN’T going to be: a way to beat myself up over things. If I am tired and I don’t make it to the gym 4x a week and I only go 3x that week, am I going to beat myself up over it? No. I am going to dust myself off, let my body rest, and then continue on the path and remain consistent the following week and shoot for 4x again. A part of the reason why people get so off track for their goals throughout the year is because they start with such high, unreasonable expectations if something doesn’t go right (and let’s be real, when does life ever really go perfectly?) they start reasoning with themselves. I have been sooo guilty of this. And then soon you realize you’re right where you started: square one. This gentle word reminder will help give me that extra layer of accountability to remember why I started this journey in all my intentions this year in the first place.
As long as you remain persistent, keep getting up when you get knocked down, find the “why” behind your drive, and just keep going, you WILL be successful in your own sense of the word. I hope you are excited as I am to hear the first “word of the year” here on this site and I would love to hear about what goals you want to reach this year and how you’re going to remain consistent with them. I hope this post inspires you to get out there and create the behaviors you want to utilize to reach them!
